How to make molds by Tsuki
In this tutorial I am going to try to explain how we can make molds to make our own pieces of Pinky:st to custom.
The materials that we are going to need are:
- Pieces of Lego, Tente or similar.
- Plasticine
- Cutter
- Plastic glasses
- Plastic spoons
- Pieces that we want to clone
- Vaseline
- Brush
- 3481 Silastic and its S-81 catalyst
- Bicomponent polyurethane resin
- Glass of plastic with measures for the resin
- Paper or fine cardboard (I don’t have small funnels ^^!)
As you will see in the photos, as soon as my Pinkys realized I was working in something related to them, they went to supervise.
First of all, we have to make a box. We can make it with cardboard, but it will be more useful if you make it with pieces of Lego, Tente or something like that. The height and size of the box will depend on the piece that you want to clone. My first attempt has been with legs and a ponytail.
Then, you have to put a plasticine layer at the bottom. It has to be the enough thick because you have to put until half the piece that you want to clone (in the original pieces there are lines are seen that can guide to you).

I have put 3 rows of Lego over the plasticine layer in the box of the legs, because the feet excel much, nevertheless, for the ponytail are enough two rows superficially, since it does not leave so much. You have to grease the plasticine surface with vaseline so that the plasticine does not stick to the silicone.
Once we have prepared the box with the piece, we must make use of silastic and its corresponding catalyst.

Pour the silastic you think is necessary in plastic container (I used a glass of the disposable ones) and mix the catalyst in a proportion of 5% (always I talk about the materials that I have used, if you use others, pay attention in its way of use). It is important to mix well both components with something that is of plastic (a spoon, for example). When it is well mixed, we can begin to spill it within the box little by little so that it is left inside the smaller amount of air.

If we have a brush, before spilling everything, we can give a layer of silicone so that we don’t left bubbles in the surface of the mold. Once the piece is covered is suitable to tap the sides to help to go out to the possible bubbles that have stayed.

We have to wait for 24 hours until the silicone is totally dried. We will know when it is completely dry when we touch the surface and it is not sticky ^^!
When it is dry, we can dismantle the walls of our box (for that reason I advised you to do it of Lego or similar, because now it is easier to remove the mold).

Once we clear the box and the plasticine, we will have in our hands the first part of our mold.

It is better than you try to remove all the plasticine without moving the piece from the mold. If you have to remove it, be sure you put it exactly as it was.

Now we have to remake the small box around the mold. It is necessary to apply a coat of vaseline in the surface of silicone.

Now, we mix silicone and catalyst again. Once they are well mixed, we pour the mixture to cover the piece.

Don’t forget to give the taps to help the air bubbles to go out.

It must be dry after 24 hours and we will can to dismantle the walls of the box.

Once the walls are cleared it is necessary to separate the silicone parts.
We have already the two parts of each one of the pieces. We can already remove the Pinky’s parts from the silicone.

Now you have to make a channel to strain the polyurethane and another channel to leave the air. I have done it a cutter. The result is this one:

We have already molds to make so many copies of these parts as we want. ^^v
I do not need so much time to do the parts, since the poliuretano resin that I use dries in approximately 10 minutes.
Before preparing the mixture, we have to have ready the molds to strain the resin. We join both parts of the same mold. I placed a few rubber bands around in order the molds do not move, but without pressing them too much in order the mold is not deformed.
We have the two components of the polyurethane resin. They recommend to shake them before working with them.

It is necessary to spill in a container the same amount of both components. To make the legs and the ponytail I used 10 ml. of one and 10 ml. of the other one. It is important to mix it well and we do not have long time to do it because it goes hard fast.
Once mixed, we must strain the mixture using the paper funnel by the channel we did in the molds.

It is good to move a bit the mold and give some flicks in order that the air goes out. Now it is necessary to wait only for about 10 minutes and we have the new piece.

Once passed that time, we proceed to separate both pieces of the mold to see the piece.

Sometimes some bubbles of air can stay, but if we do it carefully, it will be left perfect. We will only have to sandpaper it a little and to paint it so that she is ready to use with our Pinkys.
